Radiator Leaking? Repair, Recore or Replace in Caldwell, ID
A small leak or a cracked tank can usually be repaired, and that’s the cheapest route. If the inside of the radiator is plugged up or corroded, you need a recore. Replacement is for radiators too far gone to fix, or ones that can’t be rebuilt. We won’t know which one you need until we pressure test it.
How to tell your radiator is going bad
Coolant on the ground under your vehicle, usually with a sweet smell
Temp gauge climbing in traffic or on long uphill pulls
Coolant level keeps dropping but you can’t find a leak
Coolant that looks rusty or sludgy
Bent fins, or green crusty buildup on the outside of the radiato
Summers here hit the 100s, and hauling a load out of Boise is hard on a cooling system, so a weak radiator doesn’t stay hidden for long.
When repair is enough
A pressure test shows us pinholes, cracked seams and leaky tank joints. If the core is still in good shape, soldering or welding the leak costs a lot less than buying new parts. That’s what our automotive radiator repair and aluminum radiator repair work is for.
When a recore makes sense
If the tubes inside are clogged or eaten away, patching won’t hold. A recore swaps in a new core and keeps your original tanks and fittings. It’s often the best choice for trucks and equipment where finding a matching radiator is a pain. More on that on our radiator rebuilding page.
When to replace it
Sometimes the radiator is too damaged to rebuild, or a good new one just costs less in the long run. If that’s the case, we’ll tell you straight.

Common questions
How do I know if my radiator can be repaired?
Can I keep driving with a leaking radiator?
I wouldn’t. Once coolant runs low, the engine can overheat, and that repair costs far more than a radiator. Get it looked at soon.
